What the National Weather Service wrote

Shortwave troughs crossing the region, and cooler temperatures aloft, led to the ideal environment for an active afternoon and evening on July 13th with widespread showers and thunderstorms. Ample diurnal heating increased instability across the region which led to numerous thunderstorms with the primary hazard of damaging winds.
