What the National Weather Service wrote

A cold front moved across the Florida Peninsula and lingered in South Florida keeping a lot of moisture in the region on April 17th. With a shortwave trough aloft, it provided an extra source of lift for an afternoon and evening convection. Showers and thunderstorms brought heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds to the eastern metropolitan area.
